Privacy Policy
This policy sets out what modsession.com collects, why it collects it, and what you can ask us to do with it afterwards. It describes what this site actually does today. Where we do not do something, we say so, rather than reserve the right to start doing it later.
The short version
- We collect what is needed to answer a message or ship an order. Nothing beyond that.
- We do not sell or rent customer data to anyone, for any purpose.
- We run no analytics package on this site. There is no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no session recording, no heatmap.
- There is one advertising tag, from Google. It is described in full below rather than buried.
The contact form
The form on our contact page asks for your name, your email address, the subject of your message and the message itself. An order number is optional.
When you send it, two things happen. The message is emailed to support@modsession.com, and a copy is saved as a private record inside this website’s own database on our hosting account. The copy exists because email delivery occasionally fails without warning, and we would rather not lose a message than be tidy about it. Only site administrators can open those records.
We do not store your IP address alongside the message. The form carries a hidden field that automated spam fills in and people never see, and it holds a short technical marker for five minutes so the page can show you a confirmation after you submit. Neither is used to identify you or to follow you around the site.
We use what you send only to answer you. We keep enquiries while the matter is open and afterwards for reference; email us and we will delete yours.
What an order stores
WooCommerce, the store software this site runs on, keeps what a purchase requires:
- your first and last name;
- your billing address and your shipping address;
- your email address and your phone number;
- what you bought, what it cost, and any note you left with the order.
Your card number is not on that list. Payment runs through PayPal, and the card details are typed into the payment provider’s own form rather than ours. What comes back to us is a transaction reference and confirmation that the payment went through.
If you open an account
An account is optional and you can check out as a guest. If you do create one, we store your email address, the addresses you save, and your password as a one-way hash. We cannot read your password, and neither could anyone who obtained a copy of the database.
Cookies
These are the cookies this site is responsible for:
- A WooCommerce session cookie, set on every visit. It links your browser to a basket held on our server and expires after 48 hours.
- Basket cookies, set once you put something in your basket, so the item count and total survive moving between pages.
- A login cookie, set only if you have an account and are signed in.
- Google advertising cookies, set through the tag described in the next section rather than by us directly.
Blocking the first three will stop the basket from working. There is no consent banner on this site because there is no analytics or profiling for one to gate; your browser settings are the control.
The Google advertising tag
We advertise our products through Google. To make that work, the site loads Google’s gtag.js and reports three things to a Google Ads conversion account:
- that a page was viewed;
- that a particular product page was viewed, with that product’s identifier;
- that a purchase completed, on the order confirmation page only, with the order total, the currency and the items in it.
Its only purpose is to tell us which advertisements lead to orders. Your name, address and email address are not sent to Google. Google may set cookies in your browser through the tag and may use what it receives for its own purposes under its own privacy policy. The tag ships with settings that deny advertising and analytics storage by default for visitors in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland; we ship only within the United States, so most people reading this fall outside that group.
If you would rather not be counted, a tracker-blocking extension or your browser’s ad-privacy settings will stop it, and nothing on this site breaks when you do.
Who your details go to
Only the parties an order cannot be completed without:
- PayPal, to take the payment: your billing details and the amount.
- Our fulfillment center in Kwai Chung, Hong Kong, to pack and address the parcel: your name, shipping address and phone number. They may not use your details for anything other than shipping your order.
- FedEx, to carry and track the parcel: the same delivery details.
- Google, the advertising events described above, and nothing that names you.
- Our web host and our email provider, who hold the site and its mail as an ordinary part of running it.
We do not sell customer data. We do not pass it to data brokers, to advertising networks beyond the tag above, or to anyone else who asks for it.
Details that leave the United States
Our stock ships from Hong Kong, so your name, shipping address and phone number are sent to our fulfillment center there in order to address your parcel, and to FedEx so it can be delivered. Nothing else travels with them: not your email address, not your billing details, not what you paid.
If you would rather your details did not make that trip, we cannot ship to you, and you are welcome to cancel before dispatch for a full refund.
How long we keep things
- Order records — seven years, which is what US tax and accounting rules expect of us.
- Enquiries — while the matter is open, and afterwards for reference. Ask and we will delete yours.
- Account details — until you ask us to close the account.
- Cookies — as listed above. The session cookie expires after 48 hours.
Your rights
Whoever you are and wherever you live, you can ask us to send you a copy of what we hold about you, correct anything that is wrong, delete it, or stop using it to contact you. We do not ask which state law you are relying on before we do it.
Email support@modsession.com with the request. We reply within one business day and complete the request within 30 days. We may ask you to send the request from the email address on the order, so that we do not hand your details to somebody who is not you. There is no charge, and we will not ask why.
Changes to this policy
If we start doing something this page does not describe, we will change the page before we start rather than afterwards.
